Chelsea Joy Handler, born 25 February 1975 in Livingston New Jersey, is the youngest of six children. Handler was the eldest in the group of seven. Handler's father, an auto dealer, was also her mother. Her mother was an German immigrant who came to the United States in 1958. In 1989 she was diagnosed with cancer, and was able to die after fighting the disease for 10 years. The mother of Handler was Jewish. She was raised Reform Judaism. Handler enjoyed a happy good, healthy and safe childhood in a good neighbourhood. In the year 2000, she relocated from New York to Los Angeles. To support herself, Handler began to work as an actor. Handler, who was then 21, decided to focus on stand-up comedy as a full-time occupation after gaining her storytelling skills. The beginning of her career Handler began her professional career as a member of the Oxygen network's all-female cast of the hidden camera/practical-joke reality show Girls Behaving badly. This show aired from 2002 to 2005. The handler was later employed in other programs such as Weekends at D.L., The Bernie Mac Show, The Practice and My Wife and Kids. Handler was also the correspondent of The Tonight Show. Handler's big break was in 2006 after she started hosting her own program on E! The show was called Chelsea Handler. The show ran for two seasons. Handler was then seen in the United States in the Comedy Central Hour Stand-Up Comedy Tour. VH1, Comedy Central Premium Blend as well as HBO have broadcast her stand-up performances. In 2010 she was selected for the role of host at 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. With this, she became only the second female to host VMA's after Roseanne Barr.
