Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar is a Brit-American sitar player and music artist. She received the British House of Commons' Shield as the youngest, and first female recipient. Alongside receiving nine Grammy nominations, she was also the first Indian-born musician to be a presenter and performer at the award ceremony. Anoushka Sitar Shankar was the Indian young sitar star. She is the child of Ravi Shankar and a former student. Her birthplace was in London in 1982 and was a young girl who travelled back and forth to London and New Delhi. At the age of 13, she gave her debut performance at New Delhi. After that, she relocated to Encinitas CA, where she received her High School diploma with honors in 1999. Anouskha is still a young woman, nevertheless, she has an amazing career in music and performance. She has been performing with her father on stage for several years. Her debut self-titled album Anourag in 1998. She released Live at Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album a year later. Her career on stage is extensive for she has been in every one of the major stages in the world. Anoushka Shakar's talents are not only limited to music. Bapi The love of my life is a illustrated biographical work that she composed in 2002. The book pays tribute to her late father Ravi Shankar. She has also acted in films in 2003 she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she is a young Bharat Natyam dancer. Her career continues to grow and she is expected to do many great things in the future. Anoushka Shakar, born in England spent a large part of her time between London Delhi. After moving to California she graduated from high school. When she was nine years old, she started studying music with her father. She made her debut on the sitar four years later, at the celebration of his 75th birthday in Delhi. Anoushka was able to gain a great deal of knowledge by traveling across the globe along with her dad. She performed at Carnegie Hall in her teenage period, as well as recorded for George Harrison's WOMAD Festival. She was the first woman to be awarded the House of Commons Shield, given by the British Parliament as recognition of her talent and musicianship in the Asian Arts.
